Frequently Asked Questions
Will my health insurance cover Dietitian-Nutritionist services?
Regular medical nutrition therapy may be covered by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Most initial therapy sessions are 90 minutes and follow-ups are 55-60 minutes in length, depending on the insurer's policy and clinical recommendations. It is ultimately your responsibility to understand your benefit plan and coverage.
What forms of payment does Headwaters Nutrition Counseling take?
Headwaters is currently in the process of credentialing with insurance agencies which can take up to 6 months. At this time Sanford Health Plan is the only insurance accepted at Headwaters Nutrition Therapy.

For clients who have a different insurance you may request a superbill, which you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement purposes. A superbill does not guarantee payment for services.

Self pay will be due at time of booking the appointment.
How do I know if a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist is right for me?
It is important that you find a registered dietitian nutritionist that is the right fit for you. Working with a registered dietitian nutritionist can bring up all sorts of emotions as you begin to talk about food and body image. It is important that you feel comfortable with and trusting of the person you are working with. I invite my clients to tell me at any time if I am not the right fit for them.
How often would I come to nutrition counseling?
Scheduling frequency of appointments is flexible and always left up to the client. However, I prefer weekly appointments to start with reassessment along your journey.
Do you accept HSA/FSA
We can provide receipts for services for you to submit to your insurance plan or your HSA/HRA accounts administrator. It is your responsibility to know what is covered by your HSA/FSA and what is an allowable expense.
